Magrabi Aseer celebrates world diabetes day 2020

Diabetes is defined as a chronic disease that causes abnormally high blood sugar levels, due to the body’s inability to convert glucose into energy, as a result of a defect in carbohydrate metabolism due to poor pancreatic secretion of insulin or resistance of body cells to insulin, which leads to high sugar in the blood.

pancreatic gland

This gland is responsible for the secretion of insulin in the body. This gland is located in the abdominal cavity behind the stomach, between the spleen and duodenum. The islets of Langerhans are located inside the pancreas and within them are beta cells that secrete insulin.

Types of diabetes

There are many forms of diabetes, which can affect humans, and the most common types can be identified as follows:

  • Type 1 (insulin dependent diabetes)

  • Type 2 (non-insulin dependent diabetes) is the most common type

  • type 3 (gestational diabetes)

Diabetes Awareness

Correct awareness is one of the most important ways to treat diabetes, especially as it includes how to deal with the disease in all its forms, especially since treatment depends largely on the patient’s personal practices.

In this context, Magrabi Hospitals and Centers, which are located in a large number of countries in the Middle East and North Africa, are a medical institution that bears its societal responsibilities, believing in the importance of its role in raising awareness of diabetes because it is one of the common diseases in the region, and one of the main causes of many other diseases.

Magrabi Hospitals and Centers adopted a special program to raise awareness of diabetes, which included the definition of the disease, causes of infection, symptoms, complications, risks, methods of prevention and treatment, in addition to presenting special offers in conjunction with the celebration of World Diabetes Day through its branches in the Middle East and Africa, which included conducting medical examinations and providing the necessary recommendations Where Magrabi Asir Hospitals and Centers conducted a free blood glucose test, while Magrabi Egypt participated in various glucose screening offers for 350 patients, in addition to a 10% discount on retinal clinic surgeries.

The diabetes awareness program can be summarized in three main tips to avoid complications of the disease and control blood sugar levels, which are:

  • Full adherence to the doses of medication prescribed by the treating physician (pills or insulin).
  • Follow a healthy diet based on whole grains and fiber.
  • Regular exercise and activities.
